Upper East Regional Support Fund For Victims Of Abuse:  APPEAL FOR FUNDS

Over the years CSOs, NGOs, state organizations, and the media have advocated for the passage and subsequent implementation of the Domestic Violence Act 732 and L.I. 2237. Key to the issues being worked on has been the need for a functional fund to support survivors of violence who earn below the minimum wage to access justice.

In a series of consultations with state and non-state organizations, the Upper East Region has established a support fund for victims. 

The name of the fund is “Upper East Regional Support Fund for Victims of Abuse” and will be launched on the 12th of May 2022 at the In-Service Training Centre, Bolgatanga.

Operation of the Upper East Regional Support Fund for Victims of Abuse

The fund has three signatories WOM, Department of Gender and CHRAJ

  • Head of the institutions are signatories to the account.
    • RCC NGO desk officer, social welfare, and legal aid will conduct an annual audit of the fund and generate a report that should be published.

Qualification for assessing the fund

  • Anybody earning below the minimum wage is qualified to assess the fund

Processes of accessing funds by stakeholders

  • Apply with supporting documents (case files used by the social welfare office )
  • Contact your nearest social welfare office at the district level to fill out a form.
  • All forms should be submitted to DOVVSU.
  • Cases reported directly to DOVVSU shall fill form 20  of the DV LI 2237
  • DOVVSU may WhatsApp or send copies of case files  to the Committee for processing
  • Committee will process applications
  • Send funds to the Officer-in-Charge of the case on abuse (momo/ bank transfer or cash)
  • Receive a certificate of honour to retire funds.
  • The committee makes follow-ups on the case and compiles the report.
